We agreed to make the foundation to which everyone else can
join us at any moment. And according to the responses we got,
we did a very good job. But we also realise that this is
only the beginning. Together with your help, we can improve
daily life for many Romanians. As a Romanian, think about how
many fellow citizens (and probably yourself) would
benefit of touristic activities in your region, your village
etc. And as a tourist, imagine the benefits of recreational
and relaxing possibillities you will experience in this
mysterious country. Therefore let us work together to
accomplish this difficult but challenging task. And we
strongly believe that with your contribution and support,
altogether we will make the difference for
this beautiful country where it will be again good to live!
Join our team with your ideas and creativity.
And remember, you will be among friends!

My first name is very old in mankind's history.
Ana was a Supreme God (a man) for ancient
people living in the Sumerian region 30,000 or 40,000 years
ago. I am living in Romania (in Iasi, to be more precisely) but I enjoy making new friends all over the world. I like very much to read and to discover those things which are usually hard to find out in daily life. I am interested in paranormal phenomena, mysteries and fine arts. I believe that harmony, peace and true friendship really exist but they are difficult to build and even more difficult to maintain. I dedicate much time to understand the secret mechanisms of human nature which determine some individuals to be generous and open-minded, to consider truth as their most important principle of living, and to fight against selfishness and violence. I appreciate people who can dream and have enough determination to bring their dreams to life. I love all people who use their creativity for making this world a better place to live for the next generations. It doesn't matter what I do for living. Teaching became my first hobby eleven years ago. . . and my job too. Computers became an important part of my life five years ago. And creating websites became a pleasant activity since September 2001, when my Belgian friend Chris has invited me to participate to this project. I enjoy talking about my country with anyone ready to explore a region full of traditions and natural beauty. If you consider yourself a person who has something interesting to tell, feel free to contact me at one of the email addresses of Meetromania.
Be sure that your opinion counts!!!!!!!!

My name is Camelia. As you can notice, I have a flower name
which is not unusual in Romania. Maybe you don't know yet
that Camellia flower has Oriental origins,
and this name honors a pioneer botanist in the Far East, a
German Jesuit missionary to the Philippines,
Georg Josef Kamel, who was well-known in Europe for his
work on oriental plants. Surfing the net I discovered
many interesting aspects related to this plant. George
Edwards published the first colored engraving of a Camellia
japonica in the West in 18th century. Also I found out
that the secret meaning of white camellias is
"you are adorable"! With the exception of
the rose, no flower was more admired in the past than
Camellia... And I was amazed by reading a Chinese legend
that told about an emperor Shen Nung
("Divine Healer") who discovered tea around 2727 BC
when some leaves from a camellia tree drifted down into a
pot of boiling water. It is lovely to have access to the
Internet files and learn about things! What shall I say about me? I don't use to talk much about myself. I let my actions speak instead... I have good and bad sides of my personality, like any other person on the earth. The most important features I appreciate are : sincerity, honesty and kindness. I have many hobbies and surfing the Internet is one of them. That's why I have written about my town Sibiu because I wanted to let people all over the world know the specific beauty of this Romanian region. I am a textile engineer and I work in a spinning mill that produces cotton threads (yarns) for sewing, knitting and weaving together with sets for manual tapestries (named also gobelins). Nowadays people have forgotten to be good with each other. If every human being would have been more tolerant and kind, in the world we live, many atrocities and wars could have been avoided and many tears would not have been spilled. A Romanian philosopher Emil Cioran said that : "A tear has deeper roots than a smile". We must try to smile, to be friends and to enjoy the simple things. I strongly believe that all the funds used for developing nuclear arms, could be better used for the discovery of treatments for cancer and aids or for improving the life standards in poor countries. I cannot understand what pleasure can some people find in killing innocent persons for absurd ideals, in attempts for example. I deeply believe what Friedrich Schiller said : "Is stronger the one who fights for himself, than the one who conquers a citadel". Let's try together to determine people think better and have enough courage to express their good will. Anyway, these were my thoughts while becoming a member of the Virtual Friends Organization. I hope that many guests of Meetromania will decide to visit my country and especially our Sibiu region. The ancient Greeks said that "Journeys make life wiser". They were right, don't you think? |
My name is Adina and I live in Bucharest, the capital of
Romania. I am married and have two, already grown-up
children. I have a few hobbies which have filled my life
since the children have grown and, mostly, since I’ve
been a housewife. These hobbies are: plants, gardening,
animals and English language. I have a German Shepherd dog
(Boss) who has been my soul for 10 years, and with whom I
spent many wonderful moments on our walks through the park.
Thanks to him, I started to love all the dogs, including
the homeless ones that I feed and take care of everyday,
as much as I can. In the last few years, I’ve discovered
the pleasure of gardening and I began to take care of our
block garden, which I’ve succeeded to transform from a dry
field full of weeds, into a paradise full of flowers. I love
very much English and I tried to improve it by myself,
reading English books and watching American movies. My hobbies helped me to find many friends on the Internet, mostly living abroad, especially in the United States. My friends are very interested in Romania because as other people, they never heard of Romania. I tried to explain them some of our traditions, as they were happening. While looking for information on the Internet, I found the Meetromania website, which has helped me to explain them some of our traditional celebrations. Because I couldn’t find anything here about the "mucenici", I thought that I may try to write something about this celebration and about a few more. Then, it came to me the idea of writing about the Black Sea Coast where I’m spending every summer vacation. Of course, I won’t stop here. There are many other interesting subjects which I would like to reveal to those interested in Romania, a wonderful country, but so little known abroad. As a matter of fact, this is one of the reasons why I wanted to have a contribution to this website. I was very impressed that a stranger like Chris, who lives in Belgium, makes such a great favor to Romania through his website, paid with his own money. I hope that I can show everyone who will access these pages, the beauties of our country, through my pictures and essays. |
I find it never easy to write something about myself.
Within this big world I am very small and unimportant.
Still I believe that also small and unimportant people can
make a change to make this world better for everyone. A few
days after the revolution in 1989, I came in touch with
Romania in a very unusual way. Since then I found many very
good and loyal Romanian friends. In september 1998 I
travelled to Drobeta-Turnu-Severin to visit some friends
there. I had the unique experience to become a true Romanian
for one week. And I can assure you, it was the best holiday I
ever got. I will never forget the friendship and kindness I
received from people I didn't even know. And believe me,
Romanian hospitality is limitless. Someone told me before I
went to Romania, that once you got there you will always come
back. I cannot explain it, but since the first moment I
leaved Romania (on 19 september 1998) a mysterious
power is attracting me back. I loosed my heart on the
people, the country and everything in between. Romania have a
very high touristic potential. Name it and you will find
it in Romania. You like to relax in the sun on the beach...
you can go to the Black See coast where there is plenty of
room, guaranteed temperatures above 32°C with plenty
recreational possibilities. Or do you want to enjoy an
adventure trip in the wild nature and mountains (where you
still can meet bears and wolves) of the Romanian Carpathians.
And in case you want far away from your daily problems, take an
easy trip through many beautiful silent places where time
seems to stand still. And when you like to reveal the many
cultural arts, Romania is the place to be! Whatever you like
to do during your holiday, you will find it in this
beautiful country. After my return, I realised that I had to do something in return for all those beautiful gifts I received. I regret it that so many people outside Romania know so little about it. And there are many misunderstandings also resulting in total ignorance of the Romanian situation. Many people outside Romania do not know about the touristic capabilities and the rich customs found there. For years I searched a way to change this unfair situation. And as written before, I am small and unimportant, therefore I realised I could not do that alone, I need help from people inside and outside Romania. Early june 2001 I asked my friend Ana very carefully if she was willing to help me creating this initiative. I asked her because she is proud to be a Romanian and she write with fire about her country. It was a very nice surprise that she agreed immediatelly. And since november 2001 we are working on Meetromania / Visitromania / Xploreromania together in a very pleasant way. |
