The Black Sea is one of our natural resources which calls
us every summer to spend our holidays in the most
pleasant way, right here, in our country. The sea, the
sand and the breeze put a spell on you, so you'd wish
to come back, again and again, every summer.
Since their childhood, the Romanians are spending their
vacations on the Black Sea Coast, carefully watched by
their parents. Little kids are staying at the shore,
playing in the little deep water, warmed by the sunrays.
You can see them with their lifebelts around their cute
little fat bodies, playing swimming, while lying on their
bellies. If you take a look on the shore, you'll
recognize immediately the worrying parents, sitting and
watching carefully what is the kid doing. I grew up this
way too, spending 10 days of my summer holidays at the
seaside. Those days seemed to last forever when I was a
child but, as years were passing by, the days have
become less than fewer and the holidays were never long
enough. We are always leaving by feeling sorry that we
couldn't stay longer to enjoy the sunrise from the sea or
the long walks on the shore at dawn.
Year after year, the Black Sea Coast resorts have
evolved, expended and being modernized, many new hotels
and villas have been built, while the old ones have been
renovated with new facilities, now being able to compete
with the most beautiful resorts in the world. Many of my
foreigner friends, after seeing images from the Black Sea,
told me that it looks just like any other sea resort in
the world and this made me so happy and proud of my
country. Some people may say that it's more beautiful in
Bulgaria, Greece or Turkey, not to mention Italy or
Spain. It's true, what it is shown in the pictures
seems wonderful, those who have been there said it's
extraordinary but I say that The Black Sea has its unique
charm.
During my vacations on the Black Sea Coast I took many
pictures of the sea and the beach and of the Mamaia resort,
where we usually live when we are at the seaside. I mostly
like to photograph the sunrise. I find it fascinating and
unusually beautiful with all those colors shinning in the sea.
Many tourists, with sleepy eyes, shivering in morning
chill, come to the shore to see the sunrise. Some are
waiting for the sunrise sitting on the sand or in a beach
chair, while others prefer to do some exercise, walking on
the sea shore, with naked feet through seawater and
slippers in their hands... Some are running on the beach
and doing gymnastics, breathing fresh salty air, so good
for our human body.
When the Sun disk appears, everyone stops, each on their
place and admire the sunrise, until Sun rises over the
sea and shines and eyes begin to hurt of so much
beauty and sunshine. Once this great event has been
consumed, everyone returns to their daily program, and
later on the beach gets to life and the tourists appear,
looking to the sky to see if there is any little cloud
to spoil their fun of taking a sun bath. The beach
chairs with umbrellas are taken, one by one, while the
beach terraces open, waiting for the tourists who want
to have breakfast, a coffee or a cool drink.
The seashore is daily crowded by thousands of tourists
who come and go, as long as the weather is fine. The sea
water is crowded too, if it's warm enough, thousands of
tourists playing in it. The sea water is waiting to cool
them off or for playing and swimming. New attractions
appeared at the sea, like jet schi, ship short cruises
along the shore, water ski and diving. And if you don't
have too much money, there is always fishing. Also, if you
don't want to stay in the sun on the beach, nor to take a
bath in the sea, you can always visit
Aqua Magic Park, placed right at the
entrance of the resort, a wonderful recreation oasis.
This is a real fun park for the children having many water
games and water slides of different forms and sizes.
In Mamaia resort you can find wonderful shells,
little wave smoothed rocks with strange shapes and you
can also build the most wonderful sand castles in the whole
world due to the smooth and clean sand, without broken
shells. At sunset the beach looks like a giant creation
workshop, full of many sand figures, each more beautiful
than the other. When the night comes, the resort comes
to life again, songs are heard from the restaurants and
the tourists come out for a walk on the beach, to cool off
after a whole day of sunbath. Romanian special dishes
invite you to come to dinner, mostly the barbeque
"mititei" aroma, which you won't find in any
other sea resort of the world. And the famous
"Dobrogean pies" moves your nose away with their
yummy smell, asking you to get a piece near a glass of
sour milk or a beer... as you wish.
The nights' entertainments on the Black Sea Coast, in
Mamaia resort, are numberless… each tourist having the
oportunity to choose between dancing in numerous outside
discos, right on the beach, to eat dinner in
"The Holiday Village" in restaurant houses of
Romanian cuisine, each from another region of Romania or
to have fun in the "Luna Park". Every night
"The Summer Theatre" offers concerts of
appreciated Romanian singers.
Mamaia is a very beautiful clean resort with
bedflowers decorations, palm trees and sprinkle fountains,
lighted at night, which is one of the greatest summer
nights' atraction for the tourists. The fountains
nearby the Casino are gorgeous due to the water which
sprinkles right from the ground and the surrounding colorful
light games. The cameras' lights are sparkling
arround the fountains, because every tourist would
like to remember the wonderful moments they've spent
in this lovely place. Walking along the seacliff, the
tourists admire the restaurant terraces, both sides of
the way, each owner trying to do his best in
decorating his restaurant as beautiful as possible with
flowers, fountains or statues.
In the Mamaia resort, the greatest atraction of all is,
without any doubt, the telegondole. The cabins are
transporting you from one end of the resort to the other
in only 10 minutes, giving you the opportunity to admire
the view of Mamaia, the beach and the sea, in all their
beauty. It's so wonderful to see the hotels, the beach
and the sea, from the heights to far away ahead. The
ultramodern cabins compete with foreign famous
telegondoles from some well known resorts. They are
painted cheerful in red and yellow and are passing by,
over the resort, all day long until late at night, with
a clock regularity.
For those who don't want to travel at heights, there is
always the minicar (a small train-car) which doesn't have
glasses at the windows and from which you can admire the
view and cool off at the same time. Every minicar is
painted in one of our national flag's colors : one red,
one yellow and one blue! I've photographed the red and
the yellow ones, at the end of the tour, waiting for
other tourists.
The evening ends late at night when, tired of so much
walking, we go back to our hotel rooms, where we get asleep,
happy and peacefull, after the wonderful evening we've
spent on the Black Sea Coast!
